Goal setting is crucial in making life changes – but goal setting alone does not predict our success. The goal is like your destination but you need a map to help you get there. The goal is your “will power” – that’s your motivation, and self-belief, and why the goal is meaningful to you.

But all the will in the world will not get you to where you want to be unless you can be practical about finding the way.

The notion of goal planning is taking your goals, and making a plan, a MAP (My Action Plan), to make them happen.

There are some key steps for goal planning and it’s desirable to dedicate some time to think about realizing your dreams.

To achieve your goals you will be required to take an active approach, and be prepared to use multiple strategies. Find the “Way power” – the ability to find your way around obstacles, to navigate challenges and overcome set-backs. Be hopeful, and be prepared to take action, toward what you want. Take time to reassess and adjust your goals if required. Re-goaling is a critical strategy, and a resilient approach where you can change your goal outcome even just a little bit to create a more doable path that will enable you to reach your desired outcome.

Your MAP is a work in progress, add to it, as new tasks and responsibilities occur.

Take action on your plan. It will help to break your goals into tiny parts. These “turtle steps” however small enable you to take action and from there you will see the next step and the next.

Accomplished goal achievers know there is no guarantee of success, and are willing to face failure and disappointment. Ultimately you will experience positive results and find your way, as you continue to take action.
