A MAP is a design, a drawing, an outline, a picture, or a plan.
Design your life, make a MAP for what you want to do. Start with setting a new direction and mapping your vision. Your vision is at the forefront. Keep asking your self what is it that I really, REALLY want? Where do I need to change what I’m doing and pave my own pathway? What is it you want to do, visualize it coming true, what will it look like and how will it feel. Remember that picture and those feelings, and revisit them often.
Like an explorer you design your own MAP. Brainstorm the actions that you can think of that will help bring your vision to life.
We all have to map our own path. No one can find it for us. You have your own unique combination of skills, talents and experiences that will help you get there. You may not be able to see a clear path ahead but that doesn’t mean you can’t start walking in the direction that calls to you. Sometimes you may even have to get a little lost before you find the right path for you.
If we wait until we are ready, until we have everything on the list, or until it’s the right time, we may never get started. There will be plenty of obstacles that line the path you want to take, so don’t make your self one of these. Your plan may never be totally clear. You may not be able to see all the steps ahead. Take courage and move forward anyway. Take one of the things from your map, if it seems big and scary, break it down, into tiny little steps, until you have a step small enough that you feel you can take. Then move forward turtle step after turtle step.
Turtle steps will help get you there and remember that it’s all about the journey and not just reaching your destination so don’t be impatient. Enjoy the journey, new learning, and experiences.
Sometimes being true to yourself demands that you venture onto unknown ground. Going your own way can be scary and may require you to step outside your comfort zone but it’s where you will discover a whole new world of possibility, and it’s where the magic happens.
Forget perfect, good enough is good enough. Sometimes we hold off doing things because we want them to be perfect. It is natural to aspire to doing things well, and to wanting to make ourselves and others proud. The only problem is perfectionism can cause us to procrastinate and keep us from ever getting it done. It’s ACTION, not perfection that will help you move forward. Trust in yourself that you have everything it takes to do what you really want to do. And what you don’t know now you will learn along the way.
You may go off course here and there. Use your internal compass to guide you. Keep doing what feels “right” and is taking you toward your vision. When we get that antsy feeling, irritable, not right, then it is probably a sign we have gone off track and at those times we need to realign with our vision, with our hopes and intentions, reset our compass, check our MAP and set off again.
So take that chance, make that change, pursue that dream and design your own MAP. Take a big breath and leap – your wings already exist all you have to do is unfold them and fly.
