Why is this work so important to me?
My story – Let me take you back a few years
The first turning point.
When I was stressed, overwhelmed, and so busy looking after everyone else’s needs I forgot to think about myself.
From the outside I had a good life, I was fit and well, with a great husband, three gorgeous kids, a nice house in the suburbs, lovely friend’s and a career teaching in a leadership position.
Then my mother, who was in her early sixties, was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer disease. It was a difficult time and sometimes it felt like I had nothing left to give.
I can remember one particular night when I was feeling like such a rat on a treadmill. Exhausted, disillusioned and resentful –
“Is this what I want for my life?”
It was a wake up moment. I was hit by an overwhelming need to change my work, and lifestyle. I knew it had to happen. I needed to change what I was doing and how I was living, but how?
That was such a time of uncertainty and vulnerability. But looking back now, it was also an exciting time to explore, to work out what was important to me, and what things I really liked to do. I had to ask myself some searching questions.
Key Turning Point
I decided to work with a coach. There was a shift in the way I was thinking and I was able to see a picture of the kind of life I desired and to take the action I needed to take to bring it into my reality. I was able to realign my lifestyle and career and I went on to spend ten fabulous years doing work I love building resilience within school communities, mentoring and providing professional learning for teachers. Through this work I learned a lot about my own resilience and how to promote the resilience of others.
Can I really do this?
Further down the track when I recognised the familiar feeling of needing a change again, even though it was an emotional wrench to leave one seemingly (to others), successful career to do something totally new, I had the tools to help myself through this transition and I was able to embrace my next beginning with confidence and anticipation.
That’s why I was so attracted to the idea of becoming a life coach – my own first hand experience of working with a coach had been so positive and empowering. I knew this was what I wanted to share with other women and so I decided to invest in Martha Beck Life Coach Training.
And that brings me to today.
I’ve experienced and observed the effects of stress and burnout and I’ve experienced the discomfort of change. I’ve learned so much about how to bounce back and progress forward during times of adversity.
I’ve combined these practical skills with my background in education, health and wellbeing and have developed a sincere passion for guiding and supporting my clients to develop their self-leadership, resilience and wellbeing, to create their best lives.
I enjoy the role of mentor, and change agent immensely and welcome the opportunity to support you too.
